Days like this seemed to be perfect, and there was nothing in the world that could ever ruin it. That's exactly what Nathan liked, and he knew that Eddie felt the same but not exactly like he felt. See the thing is, Nathan had a crush on Eddie forever and he wasn't about to let her know it. She was way too far of his league and he knew it. But that didn't keep him from being attracted to her. Anyhow, they were just sitting on his bed just listening to music and talking. It had seemed like enough for him, he enjoyed spending time with her. Although, there was one problem.. This particular day wasn't exactly like the rest. Sure it was perfect since he was with her but their friends thought it'd be fun to make him and her be selected for the first participants of the night.
He rubbed the back of his neck, attempting not to ruin the perfect moment of them just talking and having a great time. But he knew that their time was running out and he didn't want to be the laughing stock of their friends because he chickened out or she chickened out. However, at the same time he didn't want her to feel like she had to do this so he wasn't entirely sure what to do. He was still all for playing everything off so casually and cool, so he just took this opportunity to continue doing so. "So, we don't really have to kiss if you don't want to. We can just blow them off and just stay in here forever if you'd like..." he trailed off, quite frankly he was happy with either.
But he kinda was hoping and wishing that she'd choose to kiss him anyhow. Of course, it'd make him fall for her even more but that didn't really matter. He was quite pleased with that thought, although that didn't mean he was about to let her know that. Sadly, he heard people knocking on the door and hollering that they needed to do something and fast because time was wasting and they wanted to continue with the game. He rolled his eyes and shook his head. "Some friends we've got, huh?" he laughed awkwardly before shutting up. Truth is, he didn't really care too much for any of his other friends as much as he did for Eddie. Furthermore, he'd been all the more happy if it was just him and Eddie in Paris without anyone else.
In fact, he had wanted to suggest that to her even though he figured she probably would've thought it was strange and that Nathan was just attempting to be a party pooper. Therefore, in order to keep Eddie happy he went along with it. Despite the fact that he was a tad bit bitter about the whole entire situation. There were days that he had little to no time with her alone at all because of having to share her with the other people in the apartment. In contrast, the days when he did get her all to himself he never ever seemed to share her with a soul. He knew that he was being selfish about the whole entire situation, in spite of that specific emotion, he didn't really care what other people thought. He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed slightly. “Like I said it's up to you...” he shrugged his shoulders a tad. Of course, he knew that he should just go ahead and kiss her but he didn't want to ruin their friendship if she didn't want to kiss him. He bit his bottom lip in frustration, running his fingers through his hair again. All this keeping everything cool, calm, and collected stuff was starting to take a toll on him and oh how frustrated he was becoming by the minute. "You know what..? Maybe we should go ahead and kiss?" he leaned forward, placing one hand on the side of her face, while the other one went around her waist slightly embracing her. Yeah, you could say that his heart was beating pretty damn fast at the present moment. Not to mention, there currently seemed like a tornado of butterflies in his stomach.
He closed his eyes and leaned forward a bit more so that there was no more space between them and kissed her. Just when he was about to pull back, one of their friends opened the door and started hollering something about Nathan being the man and that their time was up. He quickly pulled back away from Eddie, and let go of her. He averted his gaze away from her, hiding the fact that he enjoyed it. Knowing him, he would get away with keeping his enjoyment a secret without her ever truly finding out about how he really felt.

Edith wasn't ever exactly sure why they had picked Paris of all places to travel to. Sure, when the gang had been in school and talked of traveling all over, France definitely was on the list of places to go. She'd never thought they'd actually stop there though. She wasn't complaining whatsoever though; they'd managed to find a loft that they could split rent on and stay at for a while comfortable while they explored the city and the culture and just relaxed and, well, had fun on this little vacation. Even if they made friends with the locals and what not and sometimes met up with the locals for lunch and all of those things away from the friends that they'd come with, there were nights like these. The nights where the gang decided to just have a party in their loft and not worry about anything else. Invite the friends that they had met in the city, crank up some music, get food, clean the place up a little bit, and bingo, a perfect party location. Edith wasn't exactly one of those people that liked partying like most people around her age, but she didn't mind since she had her friends around. The six of them had traveled together, she trusted them on a level so different from anyone else in her life. It was just great, honestly. She'd never gone to many parties in her life though, par from the usual birthday parties and the fancy little dinner parties that her parents would attend and drag her along to, the ones with the nice dresses and sipping wine out of fancy glasses and doing nothing but sitting around talking to people about the economy and society and all of that nonsense. She'd never really been to one of these parties, the ones where it was just loud music and people dancing and stuff like that.
Games were included in this. She couldn't ever remember going to a party where they had played seven minutes in heaven. She knew it, of course, who didn't? But she'd never personally taken part in that. She'd never gone to many parties growing like that would play the game. Somehow her friends and a few of the other people that were around decided that starting off with that game would be perfect. She'd gone along willingly, thinking that it wouldn't be so bad, playing this. That was before she'd doubted her luck, and her and Nate had been picked as the first ones. That was how they'd ended up here, sitting on his bed casually, music playing in the background. It wasn't as if this were the first time she'd been in his room, God no. she'd come in his room plenty of times whenever she couldn't sleep. She'd come and sit down on the floor or on the edge of his bed or even just lay down beside him and stare at the ceiling, and they'd talk until they both fell asleep, or at least until she fell asleep, sometimes mid sentence. It was just their thing. So being alone in their room didn't really phase her, it was the fact that their friends were expecting them to actually do something, something that she'd never really thought of doing with Nate. Sure, Nate was attractive, definitely on a different level than most guys, she would admit that right away. But she'd never even imagined that she'd be put in a situation where she'd have to kiss him. The thing was, though, she didn't think she'd mind it too much if they did. That was what was confusing her, kept her just casually seated on the edge of his bed, her legs crossed and her head on her hands, staring aimlessly at the door while the music played softly in the background, words that she couldn't differentiate from one to another, guitar rifts and drum solos playing around them as she just stared, Nate's voice mixing in with the music occasionally, and that would be when she actually spoke.
“It's like they set this up. They probably did, too!” She said at his comment on their friends. Knowing them it probably had been an intentional thing that they were picked for this. Some of the girls that Eddie had met in town had even thought that they were together when they had met; she wasn't sure what would give them that notion at all, honestly. It wasn't as if they acted as though they were dating or anything of the sort, at least she thought. Sure, the fact that sometimes they fell asleep together might have been a hint or so, but none of them would've known that. It wasn't like they just publicly went around announcing that. Shrugging lightly as he said it was up to her, she wondered what exactly she was supposed to say to that. Would he judge her if she said she wouldn't mind if that happened, if they kissed? God, it would've been easier if she knew that he'd want it too. But that wasn't exactly the sort of question you would ask your friend, especially not your best friend. That was asking for trouble, she figured. However, as she opened her mouth slightly, somewhat coherent sentences forming in her mouth, she just closed it again as he talked again, his hand on her face and around her waist, even just slightly, as he pressed his lips against hers, closing that small space between them. Her eyes widened slightly, if only for the first second of the short kiss, before she closed them, and possibly kissed him back. If she wasn't sure about whether or not they should've done this earlier, well, now she knew the answer.
Jolting slightly as the door opened suddenly a few seconds later, she looked up as one of the guys from the living room came in, saying their time was up. Running a hand over her hair lightly, she jumped up quickly before she made her way over to the door in three strides and closed it quickly in the guy's face. Oops. Sighing, she turned around, pressing her back against the door as she looked at Nate. Was she blushing? God she could feel her face heating up as though her insides were boiling like water on a stove. That was nice. Really, utterly and truly, nice. “Um... wow, ha..” Grinning slightly as she looked at him, she held her hands behind her back, looking down at her feet, not really sure what she should say. “Um, well, ha” seemed to be all of the words in her vocabulary at the moment.

Nathan raised and lowered one of his eyebrows at his indescribably amazing best friend, Eddie, quizzically. She definitely had a way of confusing him. He didn't know if she enjoyed it, didn't enjoy it, or just flat out didn't want to admit that she enjoyed it. He shrugged his shoulders slightly, and picked a spot on the floor to busy himself staring at. He didn't want her to know that he really did enjoy it, more than she'd ever possibly know. In fact, he wouldn't even blame them if they did set them up on purpose. Everyone knew or at least could tell how he felt about her. He never once told a soul about his feelings for her. You see, Nathan wasn't big on letting people in on his deepest, darkest secrets.
He was more of the 'If I tell you, I'll have to kill you.' type, he didn't really trust people with knowing things that could possibly end up jeopardizing him in someway. He just felt like it was his business, and his alone. And that was that. There was no ifs, ands, buts about it quite honestly. Nathan inconspicuously began to avert his gaze back into Eddie's direction before opening his mouth to say something to her, a smirk casually playing itself across his lips once more, "Is that all you can manage saying to me? I mean, I just kissed you, and..." he trailed off, smirking a bit more before letting it melt away so he could have a straight face.
"All you say is, 'Um... wow, ha..'? That's not what I was going for, but it'll have to do," either he really wants her to find out his secret already now or he just really likes being cocky. Probably the latter, because it's practically second nature to him by now. Plus, the fact that his best friend was currently blushing made it even more difficult for him to stop being cocky. As if it was possible for him to stop. He stood up off the edge of the bed, before not-so-casually waltzing over to where she was. "I think they said our time was up, by the way?" So, shouldn't we be exiting the bedroom now.. Or, do you have other intentions on your mind, Ms. Eddie?" if there was any doubt in people's mind about how much swagger Nathan had, it was now out the window.
Sure, he would prefer it if she did have other intentions in mind, but he figured she probably didn't considering she was blushing already. Plus, it seemed like her blush grew a tad bit more as the moments went by. He cleared his throat, running his fingers through his hair slightly before deciding to tone down his suave sense of attitude for the moment. To be perfectly honest with you, despite the fact that he was obviously enjoying himself, he really had no intention of letting her know just yet. He really was the type to go for the act of surprise more than anything. It kept people guessing, and obviously interested. And, he was all for keeping people interested. You can count on that, it was what he lived for. Sure, it did drive people crazy because of how he acted so mysteriously but it didn't bother him. It just added to his already inflated ego, and that's the way he liked it.
He gently moved Eddie away from the door, his hand firmly grasping the doorknob before glancing into her direction. "Come on, Eddie.. You really don't want them to suspect anything. Now, do you?" he raised one of his eyebrows again, quizzically. He normally wouldn't have been so damned talkative about this particular subject, but he was beginning to question her true feelings for him. Sure, he figured that she just liked him as a friend. But, it honestly didn't stop him from hoping for more. Who could blame the kid? His female counterpart was ridiculously beautiful, and they were super close to begin with so that added to it. In fact, it added a lot more to it than he had initially realized.
Not like it was a bad thing or anything, but he just really had no intention of being ~oh so in love with her already. But, it wasn't like it hadn't been building up for awhile now considering how long he had known her. They did grow up together so that played a big factor into it as well. He regained his train of thought as soon as he heard people hollering once more telling them that they need to vacate the bedroom so that they could continue the game or at least tell them that they had other intentions. Aha! He figured that they were suspecting something else between the two of them. He smirked once again before averting his gaze away from Eddie and focused on turning the doorknob a tad bit more. "See! I told you that they'd probably think that we had other intentions. So, I'm going to go ahead and open the door before they start throwing an even bigger fit. If that's alright with you, Eddie?" there was no doubt in his mind about how much he enjoyed this. However, he couldn't help but to continue to wonder if she had enjoyed it as well. Or if she was just shocked that he went through with kissing her.
He almost had the door completely open by now before he thought better of it, he quickly shut it and locked it. He definitely had to get to the bottom of this. Maybe the fact that he insisted on playing it cool would ruin any opportunity he had with her, and he didn't want that to happen. He really, truly, and honestly didn't want that to happen and he wanted to make sure that it wouldn't. Now, it was his turn to be the one leaning back against the door. He had his arms crossed, and he made sure that she was in his line of sight the whole entire time. He cleared his throat before speaking up for what seemed to be the thousandth time, "So tell me.. Where do you see our friendship eventually going..? I mean, if you still see us just being friends that's okay with me," Liar! You know that it's not okay with you anymore, he thought to himself, mentally kicking himself in the process.
