jude and annabeth were living together currently, and jude couldn’t be any more wildly happy than he was right now. he was sure it would only take a few more day and annabeth would fully realise that they were meant to be together and it would be a happily ever after sort of ending, like the fairytales jude’s mother used to read to him. it had been a few days since he’d taken her to his house and things were maybe a little weird on annabeth’s end, or at least they had been at the start for some incomprehensible reason. after all, they were friends, why shouldn’t they live together? that was jude’s reasoning at least. annabeth didn’t have a boyfriend or a roommate, she didn’t even have a pet to look after, she had no other requirements or responsibilities, they could do whatever they wanted to. and he was sure, deep down, that annabeth wanted to be with him despite her complaints and her denial. maybe her feelings for him scared her, maybe she wasn’t ready to get into a relationship so soon after her relationship with her fiancé had ended; that was okay. he could wait. he just wished she wouldn’t protest so much and try and talk him out of things he was only doing because he wanted to show her he loved her. that was what people did, right? showed each other they loved them. otherwise, how was you to know? and sure it had been difficult when she’d acted confused ad scared, and he’d gotten frustrated and sort of sad because, why was she trying to fight this? didn’t she want t love him? – but that was okay because it was all over now, mostly, and she seemed to be getting used to this, and them.
they were sitting in his front room. rather, he was sitting cross legged on the floor next to her and his dog was pawing at his lap in an attempt to reach up and lick his face. he was laughing sort of stupidly, a wide grin stretching over his face as he wrapped his arms around the dog and grimaced as the dog’s tongue slid up the side of his face. ‘you’re such a creep,’ he said down to his dog, who just seemed to smirk up at him somehow , squirming against his arms. when jude let him go, the dog bounded over to annabeth, and god they seemed like such a tiny little family right now, and though jude kept his thoughts to himself, he really liked it. it made his heart warm to just imagine them doing this day in and day out, holed up in his living room on wintery nights and just mucking around and smiling and laughing. that’s how it should always be, for everyone. that was how jude would have liked his childhood to be like, when he’d walked home during the winter and would’ve liked to view his house as a warm and happy place rather than it being a colder place than outside if it were possibly. not physically, it wasn’t as if he’d had to go without heating in his house despite the limited funds his parents brought in. it just wasn’t a very happy place to be, and jude liked how now it seemed maybe he was turning his own apartment into the complete opposite. it wasn’t lonely anymore, it was bright and happy and his favourite person in the whole entire world was sitting there right beside him on the floor with his dog. this was nice, this was what he wanted with every fibre of his being.
he smiled up at annabeth as his dog finally wriggled out of her hands – his energy was boundless, it was utterly ridiculous. there were plenty of times when jude had taken him for a walk and ended up sprinting after him in usually muddy and wet fields, his trainers squelching down into puddles and splashing himself with muddy water in his attempts to not lose his dog. his dog barrelled straight back at him again and he nearly fell over from his sitting stance on the floor, laughing a bit too loudly as he managed to steady himself. it was ridiculous how happy both his puppy and annabeth could make him without doing anything, and as he scratched his dog behind the ears and smiled over at annabeth again, he was wondering how weird but nice this entire thing was, maybe they were really meant to be, maybe it was always meant to happen like this, maybe annabeth did realise her feelings for him but had to play along with fate. and it was just as he was smiling over at her that she leant forwards just a little bit, barely enough to notice unless you’d been focusing on her as jude had, and pressed her lips against his, and shit. shit they were kissing, and it was all jude had ever wanted, ever since he was around sixteen and had set next to annabeth day in day out listening to her spin tales about her wonderful boyfriend, when their knees had bumped occasionally and he’d jolted as if electricity had zapped up his spine, and recently whenever she’d smile at him or recognise him from across the street, or let him stay in her house. and it was happening right now, he was kissing her back, it was the best thing jude had ever experienced, he was so overwhelmed he felt lightheaded for a couple of seconds as his dog wandered off again from the two kissing on the floor, obviously bored when jude’s fingers had stopped scratching at the fur behind his ears. jude didn’t notice though, didn’t notice anything but the feel of annabeth’s lips against his and the taste of her against his mouth and the way she made his heart thud erratically as he was suddenly overwhelmed by complete and utter happiness. if they could just stay like that forever, despite the need for oxygen, jude wouldn’t really mind all that much. he’d never been this happy.

It was about the third day or so that Annabeth had been in Jude's apartment. It was probably the strangest predicament that she'd ever found herself in. Weird, kind of creepy, mostly weird, honestly. A couple of days ago she wouldn't have expected Jude to come to her apartment at some God forsaken hour in the middle of the night, wide awake and almost bouncing on the heels of his feet asking her to come with him. Sleep deprived and confused, she'd flat out refused twice, maybe three times, before she'd sighed and given in without too much else of a fight, though on the way to his place and the first day or so of being there she hadn't had much to say. This had to be kidnapping in some form, didn't it? It was, she was sure of it. But it seemed that no matter how often she told him that the things he did was sort of off and wrong and just wasn't exactly the natural way to go about doing things, all of that seemed to go over his head, it seemed, to her anyways. So she'd stopped trying. This was the third day, and she was sat on the floor beside Jude in the living room area of his place, his dog in his lap trying to lick his face. She had to admit, it was kind of rather cute, even if she was trying her damnedest to keep her face as impassive as possible. All she did was arch an eyebrow and watch them, her lips only slightly curled up into a slight smile. This was actually sort of nice, whether she'd admit it or not. She kind of liked how they were just sitting around on the floor, nothing else going on but him laughing and his dog trying to lick his face and just being a rambunctious sort of dog. It was sort of a side of Jude she didn't really ever see, she thought. She'd known him for such a long time, since they were about sixteen and in the awkward teenage phase where it seemed like everything and anything they did would be deemed awkward by society. Working on a project together had developed into having this friendship and it had led to nothing else but Annabeth actually feeling comfortable with having him around, one of the few people to have ever put up with her talking about her now ex fiancé. He'd been probably one of the sweetest guys ever, she'd realized, when they'd run into each other and sat down for coffee. Sure, he had the oddest ways of doing things and expressing his emotions, it seemed, but deep down Annabeth really did sort of like his quirky, weird ways of doing things.
Jolting slightly as his dog came up to her and hounded up into her lap, she djust smiled, scratching the dog behind its ears with both hands, not looking up at Jude just yet. She just kind of really liked how everything seemed to be nice and easy right now. She wasn't saying that she like dhim, at least in the way that he wanted her too... did she? She wasn't sure. The past few days were just some of those days where it seemed she just saw Jude in his natural habitat, so to speak. Though it was definitely high on a level of weird, from one to just plain out of the ordinary, she liked seeing him being so relaxed, sitting there laughing with the dog in his lap, sitting around on the couch eating take out food that they ordered and was brought to the house, watching television, her falling asleep on the couch sometime in the middle of the night and waking up the next morning to find him already bustling around on his normal routine or whatever it could be called. Though she didn't want to admit it, she kind of really liked where this was going. “He's such a cute little dog..” Mumbling the words softly as the dog ran off of her lap and out of her hands and back to Jude, jumping onto Jude and almost knocking him over, she smiled slightly, laughing into the back of her hand as she watched them. This was just really nice, she would admit that. It was really, really, truly nice, how easy everything seemed to be right then and there. Watching Jude with half open eyes, slightly tired but at the same time somehow feeling rather wide awake, she ran a hand over her face for a quick second before she leaned forward slightly, not even really realizing it, and pressing her lips up against his lightly.
What the fuck was she doing, oh my god. It was almost easy for her to hear her brain shouting at her to knock it off, to pull back and act as if nothing had just happened, take the dog in her lap and play with him, something. But all she could do was close her eyes and keep her lips pressed against Jude's because for some reason, for some weird reason that she wasn't going to be able to explain, she liked it. She really really really liked what the hell was happening right now, with them. As she pulled back, the seconds between them feeling like hours, she just blinked at Jude, an almost content half smile on her face before her eyes widened slightly and gravity pulled her lips down and she realized that, oh my god she just kissed Jude. “I'm … i'm so sorry, oh my God...” Scratching the top of her head slowly, she bit her lip before she stood up suddenly, tripping over her own legs slightly as she tried to catch her balance. “That's... that shouldn't have happened oh my God I …. uum..” What exactly was she supposed to say now? She couldn't very well just come out with what she wanted to say: i liked tis, that kiss, I liked hanging out here for the past three days, I like you. None of those words seemed to want to make their way out of her mind and through her mouth and tell him. No, it was almost too easy to be able to turn her back and walk off right then and there and open the door and not look back. But instead of rushing towards the door like those typical television girls who panicked, she almost took her time, catching her balance and tying her shoes, letting her eyes get distracted by something in the corner of her eye on the shelf. When you spot your name on something that you really don't know what it is, you naturally get curious, yeah? Walking over to the mantle, she reached up, taking the book down and looking it over. Her name was on it, she couldn't exactly ignore it. Glancing up at Jude for a second, she just flipped the book open, realizing all too quickly that it was a photo album, her own face looking back up at her on the various pages. A little voice in her brain told her that she should've added this to the list of weird things Jude had done in the past couple of weeks, but her mind became preoccupied with the comments that were written page to page, picture to picture, between pictures of her out in town to one of the ones of her from her room just mere weeks ago when she'd woken up to Jude being perched upon her window sill, sort of the start of all this.

was annabeth samuels really kissing him? somehow it didn’t feel real, not really. he’d dreamt about this moment for so long, pictured it in flickering static behind his eyelids, dreamt about it at night and imagined it when he caught a glimpse of her from across the street. ever since high school he’d been head over heels for her without even realising, idly wondering why the sight of her and her boyfriend together made him tense his jaw unconsciously and why the mere flicker of a smile spanning across her face made his heart thud almost painfully against his ribcage. she just did weird things to him without even realising it, made him feel emotions he’d never even dreamt about before. it felt as if his entire life had been leading up to this moment, when their lips collided and even as annabeth pulled away jude had to catch his breath and clear his head before he could properly realise what was happening. she was apologising and why was she apologising for the best moments of jude’s life? there was nothing to apologise for, not that jude could see. her entire stay at his house had been leading up to this, and whilst he hadn’t really thought it w0ould happen this quickly or that she’d be the one actually kissing him instead of vice versa but that just made this moment even better. jude’s entire body almost felt light with happiness so why was annabeth staggering upwards and tripping over her own feet in a desperate attempt to get as far away from him as possible? he stayed sitting down on the floor, brow creased in confusion as she stuttered out a few more broken fragments of sentences before saying quickly, ‘wait, why are you sorry? what are you – don’t be sorry, i.. i really liked that, please don’t go-‘ his voice was hinging on the desperate side now as he watched her take her time, slowly surveying his room, and god why was she prolonging his torture? obviously he’d done something wrong and she was leaving and he’d never see her again most likely but why was she taking so long? it was like slowly easing off a plaster instead of just ripping it off – it was giving him slight hope that maybe she’d reconsider but in the end the pain would be worse.
his eyes widened in horror as he realised exactly what she had stopped to open. throughout this entire encounter he had never panicked so much as he did in that moment, springing to his feet and stumbling over to her, trying to grab desperately at the book. she couldn’t see that, god she just couldn’t see that because he was pretty sure out of all his creepy behaviour, that one topped the bill. he’d only made it so he could remind himself of her when she wasn’t around, look at her and write things about her he’d never be brave enough to tell her in real life, about how beautiful she was and how she made his heart ache when he looked at her and how every little detail that made up her facial structure made his heart swell. there were pictures taken from the time since they’d bumped into each other after high school, of her across the street or at her house, just random shots he managed to take as subtly as he could and kept close to him until he could go home and stick them in the photo album and grab his favourite pen and just start writing, until his measured comments became cramped down in the very corners of the pages and he had to squint to decipher his spiky writing. but that was the thing – he never planned on showing it to her. never planned on actually letting her see it because he could tell it was just one of those things that definitely wasn’t socially acceptable, even though he personally didn’t see a problem with it. it was just there in the back of his mind that hey, maybe he shouldn’t let anyone else see this, just in case they thought he was a little strange. that was why all he saw when he noticed annabeth flipping open the photo album was impending doom, and that was why he scrabbled awkward in a desperate attempt to grab it back from her saying in horror at the same time, ‘wait, no, you don’t want to look at that, christ please don’t look at that.’ he felt like he’d just fucked up without even realising he was doing it. only five seconds ago it seemed, he’d been on top o the world, the girl of his dreams had been kissing him and he hadn’t even been able to catch his breath by how overwhelmed he felt. now all he felt was panicked and worried and completely and utterly confused.

“I-I don’t know but um… oh God I didn’t mean to.. um…” She wasn’t sure why exactly she was even still talking. All it did was make her mouth feel even more dry as she looked down at Jude, who was still seated on the floor, before she tried to make her way towards his front door. She’d never imagined this would actually end up happening between them; it was weird, and the only reason it was weird was because she liked it. Jude Marcoux had been the guy in high school she’d worked with a school project on, one of those people where they were friends for that time, and after that they didn’t talk much at all. Sure, she’d seen him around almost everywhere after those two weeks where they were holed up in the library, or at one of their houses going over numerous facts and googling research, but she’d never pictured herself getting herself into a situation where she would be in his apartment, where she would be seated on the floor with him watching him play with his dog, where she would lean over and kiss him and feel butterflies in her stomach at how their lips seemed to fit together so well that it made her smile, even just slightly, under their lips. She’d wiped the smile off her lips as soon as she’d pulled back, only to have her face be graced by a confused sort of pout, because that basically summed up how she was feeling; confused. She didn’t understand why her stomach was doing summersaults inside of her, why she turned to look at him again as he said that he’d liked that, begging her not to go. The thought of staying was tempting, but also, it was making her a little bit more nervous and a little bit more scared for what she was actually feeling. This was the guy who’d snuck into her bedroom through her window, the one who’d showed up at her apartment at three in the morning to bring her back to his place and spend three days cooped up together in his small little apartment with his puppy. “I… I really should go…”
She wasn’t making much of an effort to actually rush out of there though. She delayed herself by looking around the living room where they’d spent the past three days primarily, as though she hadn’t seen enough of it in the past couple of days. Maybe that was why she’d noticed the book on the top shelf that seemed to stick out from everything else that was in the room, why she went over and took it and opened it out of general curiosity. Looking back at Jude as he told her she didn’t want to look at that, she ducked slightly, moving out of his way as he tried to make wild grabs at the book. She took her chance to flip through the first few pages, and the past few days flashed out of her mind as she looked at all the little comments that were scrawled in the margins of the page, becoming harder and harder to read as Jude’s handwriting became smaller and more cramped. But even if she couldn’t read every single comment that was on the page, she felt herself smiling, first softly and in a way where she wanted to act like she was trying to hide it, but she couldn’t as she flipped through some of the pages. Though it was and should have been something that made her want to leave even faster, she just stayed still, glancing up at Jude after a few seconds of aimlessly flipping through pages and reading through some of the comments that he’d written in, biting the corner of her lip as she looked up at him. “This is.. um… I don’t really know what to say..”
Glancing down at the word out album in her hands, she held it out to him, smiling just slightly as she looked him up and down as discretely as possible. “You know… you wrote a lot of things that no one’s ever said to me before, so um…. Thanks..” Leaning up slightly, she pressed her lips against his, not unlike how she had just minutes ago when they’d been seated on the floor. “Um… you know, surprisingly, the past couple days… the last couple days have been… been amazing, honestly..” Taking his one hand in both of hers, she tugged it so that he could follow her back towards the couch, or at least the floor where they’d been a couple of minutes ago. “So um, also.. yeah, thanks for being a bit of a creep.” Smiling innocently as she sat down on the floor again, she looked up at him almost expectantly. It was strange how her mood and feelings about the situation in general seemed to change in a matter of minutes, but she wasn’t necessarily complaining as she looked up at Jude in a sort of new way, taking in all of the little details about his face that she never exactly paid attention to or notice in all the years they knew each other.
